The NJWA has created a Dictionary
of Wiffle®Ball terms and jargon used on the field, called
the NJWA Dictionary. We hope you enjoy this page and if you

Classic terms used in the game today:
3 Pitch - The screw ball
Action Ball - The ball with the diamonds used by Yard Ball
All-Star Team - A team formed by all great players from another team
Backyarders - The players that play for fun only
Banana Bat - The yellow plastic Wiffle®Ball bat
Beachball - A pitch that comes in fat, an easy to hit pitch
Chin Music - An inside pitch close to the face
Cracked Egg - A ball being used thats cracked or been damaged
Custom Bat - A one of a kind bat not available to others
Director - The head of the organization, the leader and supervisor
Dead Ball - A ball that doesn't travel far when hit
Dead Spot - A part of the ball, when hit, doesn’'t travel far
Doctored Ball - A ball altered to enhance performance
Drop Pitch - The sinker
Ducks on the Pond - Base Runners
Duece - The Curveball
Fred Flintstone Bat - An oversized bat, usually with an oversized barrel
Fresh Meat - A new pitcher
Full Boat - Three ball, two strike count on the batter
Green Pea - A player with very little experience

Johnny - A target, short for Johnny Bench
Juiced Bat - A bat that has extra power and hits the ball a long way
Lookers - A batter that never swings the bat and even watches strikes go by
Mush Ball - A ball that has been altered specifically so when hit, the ball doesn’t
travel far
Old Schooler - A player that still uses the yellow bat and unscuffed balls
Pat Pone - NJWA’s home field with asphalt and lights
Pro Player - A competitive player with skill
Riser - A pitch that rises from the ground upward when thrown
Rook - A rookie or new player
Rubber Arm - A pitcher’s throwing arm that is not effected when throwing all
day
Scuffed - A ball roughed up to enchance performance
Seems - The part of the ball where both sections have been heat sealed together
Sinker - A pitch that sinks to the ground when thrown, also called the drop pitch
Stuffed Bat - A bat filled inside with something to enhance performance
Spinner - A ball, usually in play, that is still spinning, but staying in one
place and not moving
Target - The strikezone
Tattooed - A hard hit ball
The Chair - A form of a strikezone
The Creator - Dave Mullany
The Holes - The eight holes on the ball
The Net - Wiffle®Up's target
Uncle Charlie - A curve ball
Went Yard - A batter that hit a home run
Wiffler - One who plays Wiffle®Ball
Worm Killer - A pitched ball the hits the ground in front of home plate
Wringer - A good player
Zone - Strike zone
