While eight Major League teams fight for the right to play in this year's World Series, one team-Team Trenton- already has won a championship. Team Trenton, which is made up of Mike Palinczar, Mike Soltesz, Dan Cryan and Fred “The Bayard St. Bomber” Bastedo, captured the National Wiffle®Ball Championship.

The 30-team tournament which is held in Cincinnati drew teams from Florida to Washington state with the championship game being played on the VIP Field, which is an exact replica of Fenway Park. It was the second National Title for Team Trenton which beat the Becktold Bomber 12-0 for the title. In other games, Team Trenton beat the Wiffle Wonder 6-5; New Jersey Tournament champions Lakeside Kings from Granite City, Ill., 7-3; Play Ball of Atlanta, 12-3 and the Bombers, 12-0.

Prior to the national tournament, Team Trenton hosted the New Jersey tournament. Forty-four teams entered the state tourney, which was played under the lights at the Trenton Babe Ruth League field and the Patrick Pone Park. Next year’s tournament will be even bigger thanks to a World Wide Web page Palinczar created. “I'd like to thank the people at the Trenton Babe Ruth League,” Palinczar said. “Trenton Joe, everybody at the New Jersey Wiffle®Ball Association, and dad for help building the field.”
